First Against the Wall: Blagojevich one step closer to impeachment
Posted by Ology Staff Jan, 08, 2009 @ 2:40 pmA panel of 21 members of the Illinois General Assembly has issued a draft report recommending that the full body impeach Governor Rod Blagojevich.
From CNN:
“The impeachment committee says in a draft report that “the totality of the evidence warrants the impeachment of the governor for cause.”
The impeachment committee has not formally voted to approve the draft report or to send its recommendation to the full House.
The committee, which consists of 21 House members, may vote Thursday on whether to adopt the draft report and recommend impeachment, said Mike Weir, a spokesman for the speaker’s office in the Illinois House of Representatives.
If the committee votes to recommend impeachment, the full House will vote on whether to impeach the governor.”

First Against the Wall: We’ve always been pirates
Posted by Ology Staff Dec, 17, 2008 @ 2:09 pmSo, on a bus ride into Manhattan today, I finally got around to picking over the latest issue of Harper’s (the incongruity of the bourgeois mag and the proletarian mode of transport didn’t escape me).
In it, I was treated to a NOTEBOOK entry from the ever-loquacious former editor, Lewis Lapham. Lapham took Thomas Friedman’s recent attempt to blame the Wall Street collapse on the death of the Protestant Work Ethic as a jumping-off point. Friedman had urged:
“We need to get back to collaborating the old-fashioned way. That is, people making decisions based on business judgment, experience, prudence, clarity of communications and thinking about how–not just how much.”
Lapham calls bullshit:
“I don’t know what country Friedman thinks he’s been living in for the past thirty years…but to explain last fall’s melee in the world’s financial markets as a falling away from …
F.A.T.W.: Journalism about journalism about journalists’ hair cuts
Posted by Ology Staff Dec, 02, 2008 @ 12:14 pmKatie Couric gets a haircut. The New York Daily News says it puts the “ew” in “news”. Us Magazine uses the story as an excuse to run another photo of Kim Kardashian (not that I mind). USA Today wants to know what you think! A thousand blogs are born.
I suspect that the editors of the Daily News, USA Today, and Us Magazine will be among the First Against the Wall When the Revolution Comes.
You can only find (non) stories like this in the age of the intertubes. Worse yet, their seven minute shelf lives are nearly doubled, since media blogs like The Kicker are around to aggregate and assess the coverage. And blogs like Politicology are around to bitch about it.
Get down with the sickness, I s’pose.
PS- This post will be the first in an occasional …
